This House is a selection of some of the best poems by Brazilian writer Ana Martins Marques. It is her first book to be published outside of Brazil. Martins Marques is a recipient of the prestigious Prêmio da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (Brazilian National Library Foundation Literary Prize).

Ana Martins Marques (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) has a Ph.D. in comparative literature. She is the author of the poetry collections A vida submarina (Scriptum, 2009), Da arte das armadilhas (Companhia das Letras, 2011), O livro das semelhanças (Companhia das Letras, 2015), Duas janelas (with Marcos Siscar Luna Parque, 2016) and Como se fosse a casa (with Eduardo Jorge Relicário, 2017). She has received various literary awards in Brazil, among them the Prêmio da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional and third place for Prêmio Oceanos. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Italian, and Spanish.


Elisa Wouk Almino is the editor in chief of Image, the magazine on L.A. style, fashion and art at the Los Angeles Times. She was formerly the deputy editor and has been with the paper since 2022. Wouk Almino was a senior editor at Hyperallergic, where she launched and ran the art magazine’s L.A. bureau. At one point, she gave gallery tours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and taught art criticism and literary translation at UCLA Extension and Catapult.
