This book is bilingual in Portuguese and English. It is a selection of poems from Ana’s first three books originally published in Brazil. Read some poems previously published in Hyperallergic and Guernica.
Ana Martins Marques was born in Belo Horizonte in 1977. She has a Ph.D. in comparative literature. She is the author of the poetry collections A vida submarina (Scriptum, 2009), Da arte das armadilhas (Companhia das Letras, 2011), O livro das semelhanças (Companhia das Letras, 2015), Duas janelas (with Marcos Siscar; Luna Parque, 2016) and Como se fosse a casa (with Eduardo Jorge; Relicário, 2017). She has received various literary awards in Brazil, among them the Prêmio da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional and third place for Prêmio Oceanos. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Italian, and Spanish. This House is her first book published outside of Brazil.
Elisa Wouk Almino is a writer and translator from Portuguese. She was born into a Brazilian family, but traveled far and wide, to end up in Brooklyn. She holds a B.A. in English and Art History from Barnard College and an M.A. in Cultural Reporting and Criticism from New York University. She is currently working on an English translation of Paulo Leminski’s poetry and is the associate editor at Hyperallergic.
